MENTORING and EMPOWERING refugees and immigrants of all ages by providing them with the tools needed to succeed in America while establishing a new life

About New Hope Center KC

At New Hope Center KC, we focus on providing refugees and other new arrivals, both young and old, with tools, education, and mentoring to empower them as they build a new life in Kansas City.  Because we are funded through the generosity of donors like you, we retain critical flexibility and agility to optimally serve the community in both the short- and mid-term, without time and scope limits.  With the invaluable initial support of our local federal resettlement agencies and our continued efforts, Kansas City’s refugee community will be well situated to transition into a life of hope, belonging, and self-sufficiency in America.

Central to our mission is our New Beginnings, New Hope program to assist individuals and families in the refugee and immigrant community with personal, fully customized, on-demand services, including job placement assistance, financial education and laying of groundwork (e.g., opening a bank account and building credit), tax filing assistance, vehicle purchase education and guidance, driving lessons and driver’s license acquisition, cultural orientation and social awareness, parent coaching, school enrollment for children, finding childcare, continued education referrals, community involvement and connections, English language learning, citizenship test preparation, Green Card application assistance, legal assistance referrals, general mentoring, and more.

We also provide a safe space for gathering and strive to build a community where all are welcomed and supported in both their practical endeavors and their interior lives. The collective wisdom of our community members and the mentorship they provide to peers and youth alike are invaluable to both recent arrivals and well-established community members.

Our new Golden Door Guides mentorship program connects American volunteers with refugee and immigrant individuals and families who seek a direct link to their new home country, leading to formation of priceless bonds and treasured friendships.

Finally, our after-school programs, currently under development, will guide and mentor young refugees and immigrants from preschool through high school, weaving a comprehensive social, educational, and emotional learning curriculum into a safe, fun, and innovative program.

Mission

To walk alongside refugees and equip them with the tools and support they need to succeed in building lives full of hope, belonging, and self-sufficiency in their new home. To provide practical educational programs and mentorship that sharpen, guide, and empower migrants both young and old to achieve their own versions of the American dream.

Vision

A world in which "refugee" defines a legal status and not an individual—a world in which refugees are seen, their voices are heard, and their stories are valued.
